PAU-BRASIL

Pau-Brasil is the fetish tree that has sailed the Atlantic Ocean the most, mainly through French smuggling. We are called Brazilians because of it, a tree that represents identity, but which since its discovery by Europe has become an economic cycle, being chewed up and recycled into a carmine trophy.

Today, almost extinct, it has (almost) ceased to exist as our Ancestral Being. Then if Pau-Brasil disappears, would we all disappear?—already said by the Modernists.

The four abstract paintings offer a concrete narrative, representing the journey of our identity-tree from its original "home" Cabrália (where the land "Brazil" was "discovered") to its involuntary crossing of the Atlantic Ocean to the port of Rouen in France...

Curitiba is considered "the ecological city of Brazil". It remains only 1% of the original Atlantic Forest area (? Area? Cover? Land? Site?  ^because its water, soil, air, , not only soil - if you have a light to say it ) " © Daniela Busarello ADAGP 2024

Daniela Busarello

Created in Paris with a deep love for Brazil, the series of four abstract works evokes the symbolism of this iconic tree, Pau-Brasil, and its connection to a global ecosystem.

MAR VERDE

is a body of works inspired by Atlantic Forest; a green sea of plants. The Atlantic Forest is the most devastated forest in Brazil where buildings and tall trees stand side by side.

Today the ATLANTIC FOREST in Brazil is the most devastated in my country. It has become urbanized to such a degree that it has almost become non-existent. It represents only 20% of its original coverage. It remains only 1% of the Atlantic Forest's area in my birthplace, CURITIBA, which has 3M inhabitants and it's considered as the "brazilian ecological capital". Despite this reality of visible destruction, the Forest invisibly self-generates giving rise to new plants every day! Hopian !

I invite you to take a walk together inside this urban canopy.
